We Are Growing Says Diego

Juventus midfielder Diego has once again tried to look on the bright side after his side's disappointing 1-1 draw with Lazio last night.

The Bianconeri struggled going forward, but took the lead from the spot on 75 minutes before Stefano Mauri equalised soon afterwards.

A lot was expected of Juventus after the board appointed Alberto Zaccheroni as Ciro Ferrara's replacement on Friday.

Speaking after the game, Diego said: “We played better than our opponents, but this is football. Lazio equalised, despite, in my opinion, having just two or three chances in the entire game.

“For our part, we did everything possible to succeed, but evidently we still have to improve. On the one hand it's positive to have created so many chances, but it is also necessary to score.

“We have to continue to train. Now, we have an entire week to do it. Then we'll think about the next game.”

Reacting to Zaccheroni's appointment, Diego said: “All the team has behaved better with respect to the past, but this is not enough to win, nor is playing well as we have done in this game.

“Zaccheroni asked me to play a lot, looking to free myself and to always have the ball at my feet. That's what I tried to do in this game,” he concluded.

Diego "Something Is Wrong?"

Juventus midfield maestro Diego admits something isn't working after last night's disappointing 2-0 defeat away to French champions Bordeaux.

The result leaves Juventus needing to beat German giants Bayern Munich next month to ensure their qualification for the latter stages of the Champions League.

Speaking after the game, the Brazilian said: “It was a very important game for us and we got it wrong. Something isn't working.

“We have to talk about it and try to grow,” he concluded.

Diego's team-mate, Italy centre-back and Athlete of Christ, Nicola Legrottaglie also expressed the disappointment he felt at the way his side performed.

“The goal was actually against the run of play, as at the start of the second half we were doing better. Unfortunately once again we conceded a goal against Bordeaux from a dead ball situation.

“It's a shame, as we had started with the right attitude after the break. In these competitions nowadays the dead ball situations are crucial, as it's difficult to score in the Champions League from open play.

“Bordeaux deserve praise, they have this characteristic and deserved to win. It certainly wasn't our best performance and we did not play like Juventus.

“We know the responsibilities and pressure of wearing such a prestigious jersey, so we may not always be consistent, but we did work hard and have the final game on home turf.

“We have two out of three results at our disposal,” Legrottaglie concluded

Del Piero - We Were So Close

Alessandro Del Piero can't help but think, “If we had gone into the break 1-0 up then it would've been a very different game.”

Juventus were leading through Vincenzo Iaquinta's goal to level the scores on aggregate, but in first half stoppages Michael Essien netted, meaning the Italians needed another two to qualify.

“Regret and disappointment are obviously overpowering our abilities to analyse the game right now,” said the captain after a 2-2 draw.

“We had a strong start and after the goal Chelsea began to come back at us, which is understandable as they are such a good team.

“Unfortunately, if we had gone into the break 1-0 up then I fear it would've been a very different game.”

Juventus go out of the Champions League 3-2 on aggregate following their 1-0 first leg defeat at Stamford Bridge.

“Our regrets stretch over the 180 minutes, as I don't think we were the worst team. Chelsea are probably more accustomed than we are to clashes of this level right now,” continued Del Piero.

“We gave our heart and soul, that is the important thing, and I cannot complain about what anyone did.”

Claudio Ranieri picked a trident attack with Del Piero in a deeper role behind Iaquinta and David Trezeguet.

“I was happy to take this position and I think we did fairly well. I'm not accustomed to this role any more and so it was difficult to find space, but all of Juve played well tonight.

“It wasn't easy to attack Chelsea, as they were very covered in defence and never really pushed forward with the full-backs.”.
